Without a backup, you can get into big trouble if your website is hacked, an update goes wrong or becomes damaged for other reasons.
For the short-term backup (7 days), we will make a backup for you. It is therefore not necessary to make a backup every day.
If you use WordPress and have a plugin responsible for your backup, you may consider doing the backup manually from time to time.
If your WordPress core is corrupted or you are not able to access WordPress anymore, you also may lose your backup.
How often should I make a backup?
How often you should make a backup depends on how often you change the website.
- If you have a webshop, make a backup at least once a week and keep it for a few weeks.
- If you have a website that you put something on once a month, a monthly backup is sufficient.
- It is advised to make a backup before every change you will make, so if anything goes wrong you have a recent backup to restore the website.
- After the changes are done, and the website is working, you can force a new backup so you will have the backup with the changes applied as well.
Where should I keep this backup?
It's important that you don't just keep the backup you made on our servers. We come across websites that sometimes contain leaks that allow all files to be deleted by attackers. Therefore, always download the backup you make to your own computer and save it, for example, on a USB stick. If you have a fire safe, it is best to store it there.
