Don't forget to back up your website first!
It only works if you have used your Plesk panel to install WordPress or Plesk is able to find the WordPress installation.
- Log in to Plesk
- Select WordPress in your left menu
- If Plesk doesn't recognize your installation yet, click to Scan (if the installation is not found, you will need to update it manually). Once the website with the WordPress is found, select the website on the list and the following steps will be same.
If no installation is found, check below how to manually update WP.
- Once WP is found, click in Updates to see the latest version available
- You are also able to check updates for all the plugins and/or themes
You can see in this screenshot that the system recognizes the need of updating the PHP version as well and advise the update.
2. Manual update via SFTP
Don't forget to back up your website first!
- First, you need the latest WordPress version that can be downloaded from WordPress Downloads page (https://wordpress.org/download/).
- Download and unzip the file.
- You will need to connect via a sFTP software, such as FileZilla (check how to use it here).
- After opening the application, find the folder http_docs or where you have the current WordPress installation.
- Select all the files from the unzipped file (on the left) in a and move to overwrite the files on your website folder (on the right).
The new installation should work if there is no compatibility issues with themes and plugins.
