DNS Editor
The DNS is one of the most important parts of a domain name registration. The DNS indicates where (on which server(s)) a domain name can be found, the mail, whether there are subdomains and where they can be found, and there are countless additional rules.
Think of checks for the use of G-Suite or Office365, verification for certificates or mail.
All of these things need to be included in the DNS in some way.
We already offered, for users of our DNS servers, a limited number of templates to initially fill in the DNS. The option to use templates has now been expanded. More options have been added that can be added to the DNS with a mouse click, and there is now also the option to create your own templates. This only applies to domains that use our DNS.
The new editor has replaced the previous one and can be reached via "Domains > Search > [click on the domain name] > DNS (or by clicking directly on the DNS icon at the end of the line).
Manage DNS
One of the most important parts to make a domain work is the DNS. First, via the servers specified during registration, it is indicated which DNS servers should be used. Then on those servers where the domain name is resolved.
Change DNS servers
As indicated, when registering or transferring a domain, DNS servers will have to be specified. These can be our servers, but also those of another party (for example Cloudflare, Amazon or the current registrar). It is not strange to want to change these servers, that must be made to the registry. You do this as follows:
Domains > Search > [click on domain name] > Edit (under "Actions"). You enter the screen where you have already specified the DNS servers (when creating or moving). Customize it.
Modify DNS records
You can also edit the DNS records yourself via our system (of course only if you use our DNS). To do this, choose: Domains > Search > [click on domain name] > DNS (under "Products").
The first time you choose this link, you will be asked to choose a template
There are a number of choices in this drop-down menu:
- Empty : This will add our DNS servers and an SOA record. Other records can be created yourself.
- Hosting 0XX : This choice refers to our hosting servers. These choices will be our DNS servers, an SOA record, an A record to the bare domain name and wildcard.domain name and an AAAA record to that same bare domain name and wildcard.domain name on the respective hosting server.
- Parking / Parking : This activates a template with: our DNS servers, an SOA record and an A and AAAA record to our parking server, which shows a visitor that the domain name has been registered on behalf of a customer from meta registrar.
- Redirect / Referral : Similar to the parking option, but with the IP address of our redirect server.
After choosing one of these Templates, the DNS editor will open next time.
